GOAL-S brings play-based learning to Chepang children in Makwanpur
With funding from the UEFA Foundation for Children, Childreach Nepal ran its Getting Opportunities and Learning in Social Studies (GOAL-S) project in Makwanpur District from March 2025 to February 2026, working with children from the Chepang indigenous community.
Around 300 children aged 11 to 14 took part in weekly sports sessions led by trained youth leaders, together with a social studies curriculum on child protection and children’s rights that encourages conversations at home.
Teachers and youth leaders received training and mentoring in play-based teaching. Parents and community members joined child protection sessions to build a local protection mechanism, and an annual football festival raised awareness of children’s rights and abuse prevention.
Early results show higher participation, especially among girls, and greater awareness of child protection in the community.
